Casey Weld is a native of the Boston area who has lived in Los Angeles for over 8 years and made himself a part of his community. As a student at Occidental College, Casey began working for a federal college-access grant, GEAR UP 4 LA, in the heart of Los Angeles. Over time, Casey worked from being a tutor to now managing 5 schools for the grant.

In his time working in the downtown LA schools, Casey turned to a variety of ways to interact with the community. In the Fall of 2016, Casey began coaching the JV basketball team at Belmont HS, before moving on to coach varsity and JV the following year. By using sports as a way to connect with his students and instill the values of teamwork and cooperation, Casey brought Belmont their first wins in 3 years, and well as their first playoff berth in 6 years. 

After promotions within GEAR UP 4 LA, Casey was unable to continue coaching. However, he is currently the founder and Executive Director of the GEAR UP Alumni Association (GUAA), a non-profit centered on supporting students and alumni from GEAR UP grants nationally. GUAA works to help students across the finish line to a college degree and a career, by providing mentorship, professional development, and scholarships to mitigate obstacles that first-generation, low-income students face at a disproportionate rate.
