The AthletesTouch Team

Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia as the youngest of three, JUSTIN SCHNEIDER didn’t pick up just one sport – he played them all. The notion of competing against oneself is ever-present in both Justin’s personal and professional career, and it all began on the track. Justin became a four-time state champion and went on to attend Notre Dame, where his athletic achievements sky rocketed. He won the national conference in the Decathlon, finished ranked 11th in nation, and till this day, holds the school record in the Heptathlon.

But Justin always knew he wanted to be more than an athlete – he wanted to build something revolutionary. While pursuing his degree industrial design, he used his time off the track to fill his notebooks with sketches of track spikes to help athletes run faster, run better. Knowing his drawings were not just ideas on paper, but viable designs, he relentlessly called the Adidas customer service line for an internship until he was finally connected with the Senior Designer. Justin was the only American granted an internship at Adidas that summer, and was sponsored by Adidas to work on designing track spikes during his senior year at Notre Dame.

Justin entered his first job out of college as Footwear Design Associate at New Balance on the innovations team, and then was recruited by Reebok, where he remained as a Footwear Designer for over a year and a half.

After taking off some time from the industry to pursue humanitarian work with National Geographic in Madagascar, Justin was overseas consulting when he received a call from his friend, complaining about his new work shoes. His friend had just cashed his last bonus check on a pair of new, English handcrafted shoes but his feet were killing him, even at the age of 27.

“You design shoes, why can’t my dress shoes be comfortable?”

Justin gave himself 90 days – from concept to creation – to create a solution. He wanted to cut out all the noise in the industry and narrow in on the essentials to make a shoe that both looked and felt great. His idea, and soon reality, was to create a range of quintessential silhouettes that topically read as beautiful, well-made Italian shoes but inside, replaced the cork insole with a custom-designed memory foam that could retain its cushioning for almost two years following your first wear. The shoe would still maintain its exterior leather sole, unlike a sneaker or comfort shoe.

With only $15,000 to start the company, Justin needed $60,000 to deliver his first run of shoes. For weeks, he hustled and marketed his product, convincing 600 friends, former coworkers, Facebook friends, family members, and friends of friends, to pre-order a pair and make up the remaining funds for the deposit. In January of 2015, Wolf & Shepherd was born.

Today, Wolf & Shepherd has sold over 200,000 pairs shoes and continues to bring comfort, style and performance to its customers nationwide. Simultaneously, the brand is at the forefront of footwear technology, developing a strong relationship with clients and retailers alike, and gaining traction on an industry full of century-old heritage brands with its clever and unique marketing campaigns. In 2017, at the age of 28, Justin was named one of Forbes’ 30 under 30 for his work with Wolf & Shepherd in the retail and ecommerce category.

Together with his wife Hope, who is President and Creative Director at the company, and their two
beautiful kids Stella and Mackey, Wolf & Shepherd’s headquarters and first brick and mortar retail store
reside in Los Angeles, California.
