Tenacious on and off the court; helping employers win in the arena of HR and Employee Benefits
Why am I a member of Athletes Touch?
- I enjoy the camaraderie of a 'team' collaborative environment. I identify well with athletes since I was/am one.
- I could tell from the moment I walked into my first meeting that the energy in the room jived well with mine.
- This group has highly successful, highly talented business professionals who are go-getters! That aligns well with me and my goals.
The first Athletes Touch meeting I attended gave me all the signs that it was the right 'team' for me. I was about to start a new job in Employee Benefits. My future coworker Cory Paus highly recommended I check out the group. Separately, there was a company I wanted to get a meeting with, and I had been on LinkedIn trying to find out how I may be connected with the decision-maker. I noticed Andy McGuire was connected with several people from said company. I knew Andy from the beach volleyball world, but not super well and I wasn't sure how to approach him to ask for an intro without it being awkward. Then on April 8th, 2015, I walked through the doors of the Employers Group in El Segundo and not only was Andy there, but he was leading the chapter! He was more than happy to give me the introduction I had wanted. Talk about a serendipitous moment! My friend Rasa was also there, and my memory flashed back to 4 years ago when she & I were warming up on the beach at Marine Street. I had been asking her about networking groups and she had mentioned this one. Also, I had met Alex Novak at a WISE (Women In Sports & Events) event last year and she had also said great things about it. It was all culminating into what it was supposed to be.
I've always been the "Connector" type. I enjoy getting to know new people and introducing them with other people where it makes sense. Now I can finally put those skills to good use! I'm only starting in the group but I'm excited to build relationships with other athletic professionals and let our collaborative & competitive natures transcend into success in the business world.
